2025 Jubilee

Pope Francis officially announced the Jubilee Year on May 9, 2024, with the Bull of Indiction, Spes non confundit (Hope does not disappoint). The Jubilee will run from December 24, 2024, to January 6, 2026. The theme for this special year is "Pilgrims of Hope," aimed at promoting peace in a world struggling with war, climate change, and illness. This Jubilee Year provides Catholics an opportunity to visit holy sites, perform acts of kindness, seek forgiveness for sins, and renew their relationship with God, one another, and creation.

Throughout the Jubilee Year, the faithful will have opportunities to participate in various events both at the Vatican and within dioceses worldwide. A significant tradition of the Jubilee is the opening of the Holy Door, which Pope Francis will begin on December 24, 2024, at St. Peter’s Basilica. Other Holy Doors will be opened at the basilicas of St. John Lateran, St. Mary Major, and St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. For those unable to travel to Rome, bishops worldwide will designate local cathedrals or important Catholic shrines as special places for pilgrimage, offering opportunities for reconciliation, plenary indulgences, and faith renewal.
