Priesthood Sunday

Sunday, September 29, 2024

Celebrated the last Sunday of September, Priesthood Sunday is a special day set aside to honor the priesthood in the United States.

It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. This nationwide event is coordinated and sponsored by the US Council of Serra International.

In years past, the parish has been gracious with gifts and sentiments offered to the priests of Holy Family.  When asked how they would like to be celebrated this year, Father Sy requested the gift of Spiritual Bouquets.

Does that mean roses, lilies or gardenias?  It’s actually a gift that transcends all senses—Spiritual Bouquets are prayers or devotional acts that someone (the giver) has offered or will offer for someone else (the recipient). It can be given from an individual or group to an individual or group to express joy, sorrow or best wishes, often in commemoration of a special occasion.

A simple, yet truly meaningful gift as it is a terrific way to show gratitude for our priests and a lovely way to express your appreciation and support for his vocation.

Please consider your offering for the spiritual bouquet for our priests over the next weeks.  Our local Serra Council will be in the breezeway in the coming weeks to help put together these items for presentation to the priests.

You can print this image beforehand to turn in to the collection with the Serra Club on the weekend of September 28-29 or you can use the cards they will have at the table.

Offering our Intentions in the mass:

The bread and wine are brought to the altar, and the priest begins the preparation and blessing of the gifts. When he uncovers the paten, we can privately place our intentions on the host spiritually in prayer. The priest says:

Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.
