Fr Rudy’s update.

September 18, 2024: A message of thanks…

Fr. Rudy Alumam and The Maalgo Project extend heartfelt thanks to the Holy Family parishioners for your incredible generosity during this past weekend's appeal. Through your kindness, we raised $13,069.19 in donations, both out in the breezeway and online. Your support is making a tremendous impact, helping us to construct more classrooms and provide essential educational resources to the children of my hometown in Ghana.

Because of you, many children now have better access to education and clean water, paving the way for healthier lives and brighter futures. We are deeply grateful for your partnership in this mission and for being an integral part of the positive change we are creating together.

Wishing you God’s Blessings,

Fr. Rudy Alumam

Please note: If you were unable to give during the appeal, your donation can be made through The Maalgo Project site or via Holy Family FaithDirect

The Maalgo Project

Many of you still remember Fr. Rudy and his time with us here at Holy Family.  Though he’s been gone a year now to St. Joseph, he remains part of our community in several ways.  Occasionally, he joins us in church for events such as funeral or a weekday mass. He also remains connected with us through the project he has, helping provide educational support for the children in his hometown in Ghana.  You may remember the name of the project – The Maalgo Project.

Thanks to your support at Holy Family, the project has made great progress:

·       Many children who used to lay on the floor to study now have desks, making it easier to pay attention and learn.

·       School supplies such as textbooks, notebooks, pens and pencils have made learning easier and more pleasant.

·       Highly cherished lunch for many kids who come to school without breakfast.  $0.25 feeds a child.

·       Access to clean water for the kids in school and for families.

Last year, we sought your support to build a new school due to the increased enrollment over the years (because of the success of the Maalgo Project). Praise God, by January 2024, we completed 8 classrooms, making it possible for all the kids (from TK to Grade 4) to have a classroom to study. In September, when school starts, the 4th graders will be in 5th grade while a new set of Tk students will be admitted, bringing the total number of kids to 213.

Construction of the second and final building, consisting 4 classrooms, principal’s office, teachers’ lounge and bathrooms for staff and students, began January 2024 with the hope of completing in December 2025.

Just as in the first building, the community is committed to providing manual labor. We need your help to buy construction material and pay for skilled labor.  The lunch program continues to be the powerful driving force for learning and attendance.

Our very own Holy Family parishioner, Tom Morrissey traveled with Fr. Rudy in June to Ghana to see the project and to lend his architectural skills.
